Weight Management Council Australia Ltd

In 1992 the Consumer Advocacy and Financial Counselling Association of Victoria Inc published a report of consumers' experiences with the weight loss industry called 'Tipping the Scales'. As a result a steering committee was established drawn from within the weight management industry, consumer organisations and professionals in the field. This committee addressed many issues raised in the document including the development of a code of conduct for the industry and the Weight Management Code of Practice was launched in 1994. The Code can be viewed and downloaded from this website.

The Weight Management Code of Practice was the first such Code in the world and aims to provide a comprehensive guide for the protection of consumers rights and the conduct of weight management businesses.

Application of the Code

Ideally all participants in the Weight Management Industry will follow the Code.

Those businesses in the Weight Management Industry who have been admitted to membership of the Weight Management Council Australia Ltd are bound by the Code.

Consumers protected by the Code are those who deal with members of the Weight Management Council Australia Ltd

  

Principles
of the Code

The agreed standards upon which the Weight Management Code of Practice is based, recognise and affirm the following consumer rights:
